School District Number Five Anderson, South Carolina TITLE:
READING COACH QUALIFICATIONS
S. C. certification in elementary education or early childhood A bachelor's degree and an add-on endorsement for literacy OR a master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred in reading or a closely-related field (Reading Recovery certification, National Board Certification in the areas of
English Language Arts, or Literacy:
Reading- Language Arts) Five years teaching experience Demonstrated excellent teachers of reading Have in-depth knowledge of reading processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction Have the experience or preparation that enables him or her to model, observe, and provide feedback about literacy instruction for classroom teachers.
REPORTS TO
Principal
JOB GOAL
To successfully provide on-going and consistent support for the implementation and instructional components of a Balanced Literacy Framework through literacy leadership and professional development.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Models effective instructional strategies for teachers. 2. Facilitates study groups/team meetings. 3. Trains teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction. 4. Coaches and mentors colleagues. 5. Provides daily support to classroom teachers. 6. Works with teachers to ensure that research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity. 7. Helps lead and support reading leadership at his or her school. 8. Continues to increase his or her knowledge base in the best practices in reading instruction, intervention, and instructional reading strategies 9. Works with all teachers (including content area, and elective areas) in the school he or she serves, prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in classroom. 10. Works with students in whole and small group instruction to supplement classroom learning. 11. Helps to increase instructional density to meet the needs of all students. 12. Participates and conducts professional development sessions at the school and district level. 13. Participates as an integral member of the school's intervention or other at-risk teams. 14. Performs other duties as directed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
190 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
