Why this role matters Chattanooga Reading Center helps K-8 students move from "behind and frustrated" to confident, grade‑level readers. We are adding a part‑time Reading Intervention Tutor who can start small, learn our systems deeply, and grow into a core member of our team. Why this role is a great fit for the right person Steady caseload provided over time. You teach; we handle student sourcing and parent billing. Low hours to start, intentional ramp. Begin with a small number of students on Tues/Thurs, then grow toward a fuller schedule by Jan/Feb. All curriculum and materials provided. Clear systems; no reinventing the wheel. Paid onboarding/training. You'll learn our approach step‑by‑step with feedback and support. W2 employee role. What you'll do Deliver 1:1, 50‑min, in‑person reading intervention for grades K-6 (occasional older students). Run fast‑paced, structured lessons using a Structured Linguistic Literacy approach. Track progress and document each session clearly in our systems. Communicate wins, concerns, and next steps to families in clear, parent‑friendly language. Collaborate with the Center Director to problem‑solve and keep students on track. Experienced homeschool parents who developed a deep passion and skill for teaching reading and now want to pour back into students outside their own home. Educators who want a tight, systematic environment where they can do their best work. Who this is NOT for "Wing it" tutors who resist structure, data, or lesson plans. Candidates who need full‑time income right away or can't start with low hours. People who struggle to maintain 50 minutes of focused, explicit instruction. People who are frequently late, disorganized, or resistant to feedback. Must‑haves 3+ years teaching children to read with demonstrated results. Structured Linguistic Literacy training or willingness to complete training (with our guidance). Background check and professional references. TN teaching license preferred. Location:
In‑person at our Hixson location.
Start:
Low caseload, primarily Tues/Thurs afternoon/evening for training and initial students.
Fall:
Gradual ramp of students, with increasing afternoon/evening hours.
By Jan/Feb:
Aim for a fuller caseload Mon-Thurs, approximately early afternoon-6:30 p.m., based on mutual fit and demand. Exact schedule set together within these windows. Compensation $40•42 per 50‑min session, depending on experience. Paid for client no‑shows/cancellations per CRC policy. Prep/admin time included in session rate. Paid onboarding/training.
