The ideal candidate has deep expertise in literacy instruction and a proven ability to differentiate for students with diverse learning profiles, including dyslexia, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and other learning differences. This role requires a teacher who can foster a love of reading and writing while building critical literacy skills through structured, research-based instruction. We are looking for an educator who is not only effective in the mechanics of reading and writing, but also deeply committed to empowering students with learning differences to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Job Summary A teacher at Fairhill presents grade-level-appropriate information to each assigned student, manages the classroom, and establishes an atmosphere conducive to the academic and emotional growth of students. The Middle School Reading & Writing Specialist provides individualized and small-group literacy instruction designed to strengthen decoding, fluency, comprehension, written expression, vocabulary, and executive functioning skills related to literacy tasks. This teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and interventions across content areas. Each teacher is supervised by one or more of the following: the Head of School, a Subject Area Coordinator, the Assistant Director, and/or the Executive Director. Essential ResponsibilitiesA. Classroom Instruction Deliver engaging, differentiated reading and writing instruction for middle school students with learning differences Utilize structured literacy and multisensory instructional approaches Support students in developing confidence, self-advocacy, and independent learning skills Foster critical thinking, communication, and a love of literacy B. Planning & Preparation Develop lesson plans aligned with student learning profiles and academic needs Adapt instructional materials and assessments for accessibility and engagement Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly C. Collaboration & Communication Conduct parent conferences and maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress Collaborate with faculty and support staff regarding accommodations, interventions, and student growth Participate actively in staff meetings and multidisciplinary discussions D. Student Support & School Participation Prepare progress reports, report cards, and permanent record forms Supervise students before school, during lunch, and after school as assigned Sponsor field trips and school activities Attend required school functions and professional development opportunities Organize and care for teaching spaces and instructional materials Complete required continuing education and training Perform other duties as directed QualificationsRequired Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, Special Education, or related field Minimum of 4 years teaching experience Strong understanding of literacy development and intervention practices Ability to differentiate instruction for students with learning differences Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills Preferred Master's degree in Reading, Special Education, Dyslexia Therapy, or related field Experience working with students with dyslexia, ADHD, and language-based learning disabilities Training in structured literacy programs such as Take Flight Experience in a specialized school setting serving students with learning differences Desired Characteristics Patient, flexible, and highly collaborative Passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs Strong communicator with families and colleagues Organized, proactive, and reflective Committed to helping students reach their full potential Compensation Salary is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
