JOB TITLE
Dyslexia Interventionist
REPORTS TO
Summer program Principal or District Dyslexia Coordinator
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The dyslexia interventionist will provide students identified as having dyslexia with appropriate strategies, learning activities, and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, academic, emotional, physical, and social growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree Valid Texas Teacher's Certificate Generalist or Reading Certification (preferred) M.Ed. Reading (preferred) Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of dyslexia research, scientific research-based interventions for reading, and evidence-based best practices for teaching reading In depth knowledge of informal and formal reading assessment used to identify characteristics of dyslexia Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Skill in coaching or mentoring adults on literacy related topics Adept in presenting professional development presentations
Minimum Experience:
Successful student teaching experience or approved internship Three (3) years successful teacher of reading experience (preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Actively engage students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that meet the needs of individual learners with characteristics of dyslexia. Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate for the development of students with characteristics of dyslexia. Progress monitor and maintain accurate records of student performance Assist in organizing and developing an instructional model that meets state and district standards for dyslexia instruction Provide resources and training to school staff on appropriate, effective instruction for students identified with dyslexia in the general classroom, scientifically based reading research and evidence-based practices. Attend and actively participate in 504/ARD meetings as it relates to students suspected of/identified as having dyslexia. Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, and district personnel; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful Participate in professional development activities aligned with district, campus, and department goals; demonstrate interest and initiative in professional growth Perform other related duties as assigned

None.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Safety:
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
