Job Description
Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Specialist to join our team at Locust Grove Elementary. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in literacy education and a commitment to fostering a love for reading among students. This full-time position involves working collaboratively with teachers, students, and families to enhance reading skills and promote a positive learning environment. Responsibilities Assess and evaluate students' reading abilities and needs using various diagnostic tools and assessments. Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of students. Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy strategies across all subject areas. Provide targeted small group and one-on-one instruction to students struggling with reading. Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary to ensure growth. Conduct professional development workshops for teachers on effective reading instruction and intervention strategies. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting reading at home. Stay current with research and best practices in reading instruction and literacy development. Participate in school meetings, committees, and events to promote a culture of literacy within the school community. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, or a related field; Valid teaching certification with a specialization in reading or literacy instruction. Proven experience working as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role, preferably in an elementary school setting. Strong knowledge of reading assessment tools and intervention strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and families. Demonstrated ability to create engaging and effective instructional materials and activities. Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. Ability to adapt to the diverse needs of students and implement differentiated instruction.
