As members of the largest public higher education system in the nation, we provide accessible, high-quality education.
The Department
The Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Science, Technology, and Business and offers a cross-disciplinary curriculum that addresses human movement across the lifespan from sociocultural, biological/physical, behavioral, and humanistic perspectives. The curriculum emphasizes both the unique and shared needs of individuals across a wide range of contexts and conditions. The recently revised program prepares graduates to apply kinesiological principles to the acquisition, performance, and refinement of motor skills, as well as to the use of physical activity as an educational tool for promoting fitness and wellness.
To promote academic excellence, the Department actively recruits students from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to local community college transfers, first-generation college students, dual-language learners, and Pell-eligible individuals. We encourage applications from candidates whose backgrounds or interests align with this commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The Department of Kinesiology serves approximately 250 majors who pursue one of three concentrations: 1) Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy, 2) Interdisciplinary/Pre-Occupational Therapy, and 3)
Lifetime Physical Activity:
Fitness and Wellness. The program provides students with a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of human movement. Graduates pursue careers as allied health professionals, educators, and fitness and wellness coaches, as well as advanced graduate study.
