About Trevecca Nazarene University Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian, liberal-arts institution committed to academicexcellence, faith-informed learning, and service to the church and community. Located in Nashville, TN, Trevecca serves a diverse populationof undergraduate and graduate students and prides itself on preparing students for meaningful careers, leadership, and lifelong learning. Position Summary Trevecca Nazarene University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department ofExercise and Sport Science. The Chair will provide dynamic academic and administrative leadership to the department, advance program qualityand enrollment, support faculty development, and help shape curriculum and strategic planning consistent with the University's mission andChristian identity. The Chair will also maintain an active role as a teacher and scholar in their area of expertise and contribute touniversity service. Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership and Administration Provide visionary, collaborativeleadership for the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, aligning departmental goals with the mission and strategic priorities ofTrevecca Nazarene University. Oversee day-to-day administration of the department, including scheduling, curriculum management,assessment, program review, and accreditation/compliance responsibilities. Develop and implement strategies for program growth,recruitment, retention, and student success for undergraduate and (where applicable) graduate programs. Lead budget planning andresource allocation for the department; manage departmental resources responsibly and transparently. Chair departmental meetings;serve as primary liaison between department faculty/staff and university administration; represent the department in university committeesand initiatives. Foster a collegial, diverse, and inclusive departmental culture that supports faith-informed teaching andlearning. 2. Faculty Development and Supervision Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and support faculty and staff inteaching effectiveness, scholarship, professional development, and service. Conduct annual faculty evaluations and participate intenure/promotion processes according to university policies. Encourage and facilitate faculty engagement in scholarship,community partnerships, and professional activities that enhance departmental reputation. 3. Teaching and Scholarship Maintain an appropriate teaching load as a faculty member (typically undergraduate and/or graduate courses in exercise science,sport science, kinesiology, coaching, fitness leadership, or related areas). Sustain an active program of scholarship, creativeactivity, or professional engagement aligned with the faculty rank and department expectations. Integrate Christian perspectivesand ethical approaches into curriculum and mentoring, consistent with the university's faith identity. 4. Student Engagementand Programs Support academic advising, clinical/field placements, internships, and student organizations within thedepartment. Build and strengthen partnerships with local healthcare providers, athletics organizations, schools, and communityagencies to expand practicum, clinical, internship, and employment opportunities for students. Promote experiential learning,assessment of student learning outcomes, and career-readiness initiatives. 5. Assessment, Accreditation, and ProgramDevelopment Lead assessment of student learning outcomes and continuous program improvement. Oversee programaccreditation or state approvals as required (e.g., CAATE, CAAHEP, NASM, or other relevant bodies) and maintain documentation and reporting. Guide curricular innovation, new program development, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across theuniversity. 6. Other Duties Participate in university-wide service, committees, and initiatives; contribute todevelopment/fundraising as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned by the dean or provost. Qualifications Required An earned doctorate (PhD, EdD, DPT, or other terminal degree) in exercise science,kinesiology, sport science, athletic training, exercise physiology, or a closely related field. Candidates with an outstanding master'sdegree and substantial relevant professional/administrative experience may be considered for some ranks, but would be required to complete adoctoral degree as part of the appointment. Successful record of college-level teaching and the ability to teach undergraduateand/or graduate courses in exercise and sport science. Demonstrated leadership or administrative experience (e.g., programcoordinator, director, associate chair, clinical director) with skills in supervision, budgeting, and program management. Evidence of scholarly or professional engagement appropriate to rank (publications, presentations, grants, clinical/professionalcertifications, or creative work). Commitment to Christian higher education and the mission and values of Trevecca NazareneUniversity, including the integration of faith, learning, and service. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborativeskills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Preferred Experience with program assessment and accreditation processes relevant to exercise and sport science programs. Experience developing and expanding academic programs, online/hybrid course development, or partnerships with community and healthcareorganizations. Active professional certification(s) appropriate to the discipline (e.g., ACSM certifications, NSCA-CSCS, ATC,CPT, etc.). Experience mentoring junior faculty and supporting faculty development. Demonstrated success in studentrecruitment/retention strategies and workforce development initiatives.
