DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS QUESTIONS Upward Bound UB provides students with the necessary support services to pursue a higher education and aims at fostering the next generation of college graduates Our goal is to increase the number of students progressing onto higher education who are successful in the baccalaureate and beyond Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program designed primarily to assist lowincome and potential firstgeneration college students with enrolling and preparing to succeed in college at the following Anaheim Union High School District AUHSD schools Magnolia and Savanna High School; and Santa Ana Unified School District SAUSD schools Santa Ana Saddleback Century and Valley High School The program provides tailored academic advisement academic support and college access programming for students to ensure that they are provided with the highestquality opportunities to be successful in college Through the Summer Instructional Component participants are exposed to a reallife college experience during an intensive sixweek summer program Scholars will participate in college and career workshops connect with professionals and community members meet college admission officers and prepare to undertake a rigorous course of study for the following
  • academic year The goal for the Summer Instructional Component is to ensure each student is developing the essential skills to become analytical selfsufficient problemsolver and critical thinker The Summer Program Instructional Component will be conducted inperson at California State University Fullerton The primary role of the instructor will be to expose participants to academically rigorous and college preparatory coursework This is a week teaching assignment beginning June and ending July from AM•PM Hours range from to hours per week Assignment also includes a mandatory instructor orientationplanning meeting on May and from June•Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a GrantContract over a specified period Employment for this position beyond the current GrantContract funding is contingent upon continued funding Essential Duties Develop and implement a creative handson curriculum focused on topics such as genetics anatomy andor physiology The course is to be delivered to three separate classes over six weeks Prepare and submit lesson plans prior to instruction Assists participants and program staff to establish and maintain acceptable classroom behavior and standards Communicate regularly with Project Director and program staff to ensure the academic development of participants Assess and report on participants' progress by administering a pre and post assessment instruments Participate in paid mandatory curriculum development meetings May and from June•Encourages an atmosphere that stimulates a learning environment that cultivates critical thinking and a commitment to lifelong learning Facilitate active and collaborative learning for•students per class section rising th•th grades Facilitate class sections on a block schedule of MondayWednesday Attend weekly staff meeting with Project Director and other instructors Additional responsibilities include Submitting a course syllabus stating the goals and objectives of the class and the methods of attaining those goals at the Instructor Curriculum Meeting These goals should be aligned with the objectives of the Upward Bound Program Other duties as assigned Qualifications Experience teaching high school students Experience in the process of articulating student and instructional needs Ability to work in collaborative teaching environments and the ability to develop effective teaching strategies from these collaborative spaces Experience working with first generation and lowincome students
EDUCATION
Minimum Bachelor's degree Single Subject Teaching Credential in respective course subject area

Prolonged sitting in front of computer Walking talking hearing pulling bending may carry pounds of objectsmaterial not exposed to extreme noise level use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands or arms stoop kneel taste or smell
