Job Description

Banning Lewis Prep Academy, serving grades 6-12, is one of two campuses (Banning Lewis Ranch Academy—K-5 is the other), is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where students thrive academically and develop skills, character, and mindset to effectively engage with the world. Position Overview The High School Social Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' understanding of history, civics, culture, and human behavior. This role includes teaching a variety of social science courses, with an emphasis on critical thinking, analysis, and discourse. The position may include courses such as Psychology and World Religions, requiring the teacher to foster respectful, balanced, and academically grounded discussions. Instruction is aligned with PBIS, CKH, and restorative practices to support a positive and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Lesson Design Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to social science standards. Teach a range of courses which may include U.S. History, World History, Civics, Psychology, and World Religions. Emphasize critical thinking, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and evidence-based reasoning.

Facilitate structured discussions and debates on historical, cultural, and contemporary issues.

Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Assessment & Feedback Design and administer formative and summative assessments. Provide timely, actionable feedback on student thinking, writing, and analysis.

Use assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth. Classroom Culture & Management Establish clear expectations and routines.

Create a respectful, inclusive, and academically focused classroom environment.

Facilitate discussions on sensitive topics with neutrality, professionalism, and respect.

Reinforce PBIS expectations consistently. CKH & Relationship Building Build strong relationships that foster trust, engagement, and student voice.

Encourage respectful dialogue and diverse perspectives in classroom discussions. Restorative Practices Address behavior through reflective and restorative approaches that support student growth. Collaboration Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to plan instruction and analyze data.

Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and improve student outcomes. Operational Support Support school events, supervision duties, and testing as needed. Commitment to School Climate and Culture The High School Social Science Teacher promotes a culture where all students can think critically, engage in meaningful dialogue, and understand diverse perspectives through high expectations, inclusive practices, and strong relationships. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, History, Psychology, or a related field in education Ability to obtain a valid Colorado teaching license Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching high school social science courses Willingness and ability to teach a range of courses, including U.S. History, World History, Civics, Psychology, and World Religions Knowledge of inquiry-based instruction, primary source analysis, and discussion-based learning Skills & Competencies Strong content knowledge across social science disciplines Instructional design and differentiation Facilitation of discussion and critical thinking Classroom management Data analysis and responsiveness Cultural competency and global awareness Work Environment & Physical Demands Classroom-based with regular standing, movement, and parent and student interaction. Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive compensation package, which includes group insurance (health, dental, and vision), paid sick leave and personal leave, and participation in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) as our retirement plan.
Salary Range:
$51,000 - $65,000 This position will be for the 2026-2027 school year.
Pay:
$51,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
