Full Job Description Job Description:
Somerset Academy Central Miramar is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Secondary Computer Science Teacher to deliver computer science and technology instruction—including industry certification courses—to middle and high school students in grades 6-12. The ideal candidate will provide engaging, standards-based instruction that prepares students for a variety of technology careers and industry-recognized certifications.
Responsibilities:
Teach computer science courses focused on industry certifications such as CompTIA IT Fundamentals, Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), Python, Java, Web Design, or other relevant certifications. Develop and implement a curriculum that meets state and industry standards while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills. Prepare students for success on certification exams through rigorous instruction, hands-on labs, and practice activities. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student population, including both middle and high school learners. Stay current with technology trends, certification requirements, and best practices in computer science education. Collaborate with colleagues, guidance counselors, and CTE (Career and Technical Education) staff to support student achievement and program growth. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and certification exam results. Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and exploration in technology fields. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding student progress and class activities. Participate in ongoing professional development, departmental meetings, and school events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Education, or a related field (required). Valid Florida teaching certification for secondary computer science or related area (required). Industry certifications (such as CompTIA, Microsoft, or equivalent) and/or experience preparing students for certification exams (preferred). Previous experience teaching computer science at the middle or high school level preferred. Strong technical skills in programming languages, computer hardware/software, networking, or web design. Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Commitment to creating equitable access to technology education for all students.
