Job Description

Position Summary:
NewGate School seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Secondary Math and Science Teacher to guide students in grades 7-12 through a rigorous, engaging, and hands-on learning experience. The ideal candidate will be able to teach a range of mathematics courses including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, as well as middle and high school science classes. This educator will inspire curiosity, analytical thinking, and real-world problem solving through project-based, experiential instruction aligned with Montessori principles and college preparatory expectations. The successful candidate will cultivate an intellectually vibrant classroom environment where students actively explore concepts through experimentation, collaboration, inquiry, and interdisciplinary connections. This teacher will work closely with colleagues to support students' academic growth, independence, and development as confident learners and thoughtful global citizens.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate math and science instruction for students in grades 7-12. Teach courses that may include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, integrated middle school mathematics, life science, physical science, environmental science, biology, chemistry, or other secondary science offerings based on school needs and teacher expertise. Create hands-on, project-oriented learning experiences that connect mathematical and scientific concepts to real-world applications. Foster a classroom culture of inquiry, experimentation, collaboration, and intellectual risk-taking. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support students in developing independence, executive functioning, and confidence. Integrate Montessori philosophy and interdisciplinary connections into curriculum planning and instruction whenever possible. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, formative assessments, and authentic performance tasks to monitor and support student growth. Maintain an organized, engaging, and safe classroom and laboratory environment. Communicate effectively and proactively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and well-being. Collaborate with faculty on interdisciplinary projects, student support, school initiatives, and community events. Participate fully in the life of the school community, including meetings, conferences, student exhibitions, and special events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred. Experience teaching secondary mathematics and/or science courses. Ability to teach Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II required. Experience with hands-on, project-based, inquiry-driven instruction strongly preferred. Familiarity with Montessori philosophy, experiential education, or student-centered learning approaches preferred. Strong classroom management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Enthusiasm for contributing to a collaborative, mission-driven educational community dedicated to the development of the whole child.
