  • Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions.
Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part­ time employees.

Federal Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Partnership in Advancing Computational Thinking (PACT) project, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to empower students—with a specific focus on Native Hawaiian (NH) students—to pursue STEM careers. This position is designed for University of Hawai?i West O?ahu (UHWO) faculty to facilitate the culturally relevant integration of computational thinking (CT) and emerging technologies, such as generative AI, into their specific academic disciplines. Completing recognized professional training or certification in computational thinking and/or emerging technologies to enhance curriculum and instruction. Examining student perceptions, engagement, and/ or understanding of computational thinking, including the application of emerging technologies in a course. Participating in professional or academic conferences, symposia, or workshops related to computational thinking, AI, or disciplinary research to enhance professional knowledge and teaching practices. Present findings or knowledge gained through professional development at PACT seminars or workshops (in-person or via Zoom). Provide written summaries of project outcomes for potential publication. Complete a survey reflecting on the experience as part of the PACT project evaluation. Foster professional development and collaboration (Pilina building) through the PACT Hui and campus community. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Master's Degree from an accredited University/College in good standing Demonstrated commitment to integrating algorithmic, logical, and systematic and computational thinking (CT) and/ or integration of emerging technologies into the curriculum. Ability to design projects with clear benefits for all students, emphasizing culturally relevant approaches for Native Hawaiian students.
