Highschool Job Overview:
Teachers at ASA are responsible for providing culturally-relevant instruction, utilizing a skills based framework. Teachers maintain an appropriate learning environment while delivering instruction to at-risk youth. Additionally, teachers keep accurate records of student learning and attendance. Teachers develop weekly lesson plans utilizing curriculum framewoks and pacing guides . Specifically, the Science teacher is responsible for preparing and delivering lessons that teach students to use Critical Thinking, Effective Communication and Creative Exploration to create globally Active Contributors.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging instruction for specific scientific diciplines (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental and Integrated Science) as assigned.
  • Identify the cultural relevance in Science and make connections to cultural relevance and current events.
  • Create summative and formative assessments, provide information for and modify instruction per Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Create classroom norms and Standard operating procedures that are conducive to student learning.
  • Keep accurate records of academic progress, parental calls and emails.
  • Identify and Complete funding requests using data and annacdota information
  • Coordinate and participate in afterschool clubs, sports and social events
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in discipline area is required; master's degree is preferred
  • Illinois or reciprocating state PEL License (Personal Educator License)
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in an urban environment with at-risk students
  • Demonstrated experience with classroom management, particularly in an urban environment with at-risk youth
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrate a sense of enthusiasm and passion for the teaching adolescent youth
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide differentiated classroom instruction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms
