POSITION SUMMARY
The Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based science instruction that promotes inquiry, critical thinking, and scientific literacy among students at Kickapoo Nation School. The teacher develops engaging lessons aligned with Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) science standards and fosters a safe laboratory and classroom environment. The position operates in compliance with KSDE licensure requirements, applicable federal and state laws, tribal governance authority, and School Board policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Science Education or related scientific field required.
- Valid Kansas teaching license with appropriate science endorsement issued by KSDE required. Emergency and provisional certifications may be accepted.
- Knowledge of KSDE science standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Experience teaching science at the elementary or secondary level preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Strong classroom management, instructional planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze student data to guide instructional decisions.
- Must successfully complete required background check in accordance with applicable laws and school policies.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with KSDE standards.
- Facilitate laboratory experiments and hands-on investigations in a safe environment.
- Teach scientific concepts, inquiry skills, and critical thinking strategies.
- Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments.
- Maintain a safe and organized science classroom and laboratory.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety guidelines and chemical storage regulations.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and interdisciplinary instruction.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and applicable laws.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
- Participate in IEP and Section 504 meetings as appropriate.
- Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional times as assigned.
- Participate in professional development and school improvement initiatives.
- Prepare reports and documentation as required by KSDE and the School Board.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or School Board and adapt to changing operational needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Ability to stand and move throughout the classroom and laboratory for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and set up laboratory equipment and materials.
- Ability to supervise students in laboratory settings.
- Work is performed primarily in classroom and laboratory environments.
- Employee must comply with all workplace safety rules, regulations, and procedures.

Employment with Kickapoo Nation School is governed by applicable tribal laws, policies, and procedures and may also be subject to the employment laws of the State of Kansas unless otherwise provided by written contract or applicable law. Employment terms, evaluation procedures, renewal, and termination shall be governed by applicable policies and laws.
Pay:
$44,750.00 - $63,000.00 per year
