Job Description

12 month exempt position, 35 hrs/week (7:40am-2:40pm),
Full Time Position Overview:
A JCFA STAR
Academy Teacher must have strong communication and classroom management skills, work well with non-traditional students, and have a passion for supporting all students through earning a high school diploma.
JCFA STAR
Academy's blended, hands-on project based learning environment provides flexibility and accountability to students to foster taking responsibility for their academic achievements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Using differentiated instruction techniques to increase student success in individualized and small group instruction settings
  • Provide academic and interpersonal support to students
  • Managing a blended, hands-on, project based learning environment that is student focused, and provides individualized instruction and support which includes, but is not limited to: entering daily class period attendance for all students, modeling and enforcing all JCFA policies for students, modeling JCFA's expectations and supporting students in meeting those expectations, recording and reporting student progress and work ethic regularly as required by the CAO, maintaining his/her gradebook daily, expressing his/her resource and support needs to the CAO regularly, etc • Accessing and using

Academy technology and internet in the appropriate manner, in accordance with JCFA's policies and state laws, for the benefit of JCFA and JCFA's students
  • Working collaboratively with administration, faculty, and all other team members to implement and reinforce all components of a consistent school culture
  • Meeting weekly to discuss student progress, provide feedback, and refine instructional delivery
  • Reviewing data daily/weekly to create and implement targeted embedded remediation for individual students, and /or to increase the student population's understanding of fundamental principles in a subject area
  • Proactively managing students' behavior according to the school-wide culture
  • Maintaining a safe, nurturing environment where all students can learn
  • Models and enforces all JCFA policies and procedures
  • Fielding phone calls from students and their families; proactively engaging parents regularly of student successes and areas of opportunity
  • Developing and delivering instruction to prepare students for high-stakes testing
  • Serves as a mentor for designated students
  • Actively participates in Star Academy professional development
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the accelerated pace of the Star Academy curriculum
  • Attends faculty and staff development meetings, and all other professional development meetings set by the CAO and/or the organization
  • All other duties as assigned Strong candidates for this position will possess:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with 18 hours in content specific courses, two years demonstrated success teaching in an urban environment in either middle or high school; desired: current 6-12 Louisiana Teacher Certification or participation in a certification program
