High School Science Teacher (183 Days)
Reports To:
Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Science Department Chair Position Overview In alignment with the mission of Dedham Public Schools to promote excellence in learning, self-discipline, and motivation, the High School Science Teacher fosters a dynamic, inquiry-driven classroom environment. This role emphasizes scientific thinking, collaboration, and culturally responsive practices to support diverse learners and cultivate an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning community. Key Responsibilities Teach five sections of high school science aligned with the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) Frameworks Design and implement engaging, phenomena-based lessons that integrate science practices and real-world applications Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of all students Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes equity and student voice Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and vertically aligned curriculum Use assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust teaching strategies as needed Participate in department, building, and IEP meetings, as well as parent/guardian conferences Maintain consistent, effective communication with families to support student success Uphold laboratory safety standards and ensure proper use of equipment and materials Support and implement district and school-based initiatives
Qualifications Required:
Massachusetts DESE licensure in High School Science (Grades 9-12) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement Knowledge of the 2016
MA STE Frameworks Preferred:
Experience with phenomena-based or storyline-driven curriculum design Familiarity with inclusive instructional practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Skills and Competencies Ability to differentiate instruction and effectively engage students with diverse backgrounds, identities, and learning needs Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive classroom practices Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills Reflective practitioner dedicated to continuous professional growth Collaborative mindset with a willingness to engage in shared problem-solving Effective communication skills with students, families, and colleagues Proficiency with instructional technology in a 1:1 learning environment Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Professional Expectations Engage in curriculum development and review within the department and across disciplines Design instruction that promotes inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world connections Utilize a variety of assessment methods and provide timely, meaningful feedback Maintain accurate records in accordance with district policies and legal requirements Support students' academic and social-emotional development Adhere to all state laws, district policies, and professional standards Ensure the safety of students, materials, and equipment at all times Participate in ongoing professional learning and stay current with best practices Serve on school and district committees as assigned
