GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Plan, teach, and evaluate general science units designed to meet the Massachusetts Science, Technology, and Engineering Curriculum Frameworks and perform tasks associated with the teaching profession in general. Inspire middle school students in all aspects of Science for future course and career pathways and collaborate with school and district educators. Become especially responsive to the needs of our middle school students and make a constructive effort to serve the needs of our school as an organization. Ability to provide differentiated instruction for advanced learners is a key qualification for this position. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned area of responsibility.2.Establish and maintain an instructional atmosphere conducive to learning.3.Develop lesson plans and organize class time so demonstration, instruction, hands-on activities and project based-learning can be accomplished within the allotted time.4.Incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math into lessons and projects and demonstrate appropriate application of interdisciplinary instruction across all disciplines.5.Apply a variety of teaching techniques to the delivery of instruction in science content areas of: Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Science6.Evaluate students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepare progress reports.7.Perform all required duties (i.e. supervision, attendance taking, student/parent conferences, department/staff meetings, professional development, etc.).8.Maintain up-to-date and accurate records and reports necessary for effective management.9.Responsible for delivering appropriate accommodations and services for all students.10.Participate in professional development activities that align with school-wide educational goals.11.Adhere to the requirements of the Educator Evaluation System.12.Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent of Schools. QUALIFICATIONS
1.Bachelors Degree in Science or related technology and/or engineering field.2.MA DESE certification in General Science (5-8) preferred; licensure in Science Grades 1-6 acceptable with a strong Science background.3.Demonstrated proficiency in the execution of 2016 MA Science and Technology/Engineering Frameworks.4.Familiar with Science, Technology/Engineering MCAS test items.5.Computer literate.6.Experience instructing at the middle school level with evidence of instructional or supervisory role.7.Ability to draw interdisciplinary connections between science, engineering, math, and technical fields.8.Examples of lesson and assessment development or project-based learning; practicum or teaching experiences is strongly suggested.9.Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a caring, positive and constructive manner and specifically with students, teachers, school administrators, parents and volunteers.
