THE ROLE
TEC Academy
  • Phoenix Campus currently students in grades 6-12.
The program serves students whose emotional and behavioral challenges are impacting their ability to access instruction in a typical classroom setting, with an eye toward developing necessary skills to experience academic success. The Science Teacher provides daily instruction in science in alignment with the MA Curriculum Frameworks in a flexible, differentiated classroom setting.
OUR ORGANIZATION
The Education Cooperative (TEC) is an educational collaborative and 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in E. Walpole, MA that develops and coordinates educational and organizational programs to meet the needs of our 19 member communities and their students in a way that complements and strengthens their school programs and expands opportunities for their students, educators and communities in the most cost effective manner. TEC Academy is a DESE approved public day school that is designed for students in Grades K-2 and 6-12 with academic, emotional and/or behavioral challenges that necessitate a small, structured educational setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assess students skills to determine their learning needs-Plan engaging lessons with clear, measurable objectives that are relevant to the appropriate curriculum standards and adapted to meet the needs of students-Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each students abilities-Teach and mentor students in whole class, small groups, and one-on-one settings
  • Implement IEPs, assess students performance, and track their progress
  • Discuss students progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
  • Supervise teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and post graduation
  • Maintain effective, ongoing communication with colleagues and district representatives to improve student outcomes
  • Collaborate in the development of IEP planning notes and IEP progress reports-Maintain updated student records, including IEPs, professional reports and required data for all students, in accordance with student records regulations
  • Participate in staff and other professional development meetings, conferences and teacher training, such as Safety Care
  • Integrate technology into the classroom practice as an instructional tool and for personal productivity.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, & SKILLS
  • Strong instructional pedagogy-Skilled at working with students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs and/or a trauma history-Expertise and commitment to creating an environment that is welcoming, safe, supportive, and appropriately challenging for all students
  • Strong communication skills-Excellent judgment and decision-making skills-Ability to think proactively and respond flexibly-Able to exhibit a calm, supportive demeanor in the face of unexpected situations or behavior-Adept at building strong relationships with students, their families and other community members
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a professional team
  • Technological proficiency
  • having the necessary skills to produce and maintain reports and communicate electronically
  • Ability to work under time restraints and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
