Full Job Description Position Title:
High School Science Teacher (Biology) (2026-2027 SY)
Description:
The High School Science Teacher provides learning experiences in Science, plans engaging lessons that include a laboratory component. The teacher should be comfortable and confident with the subject matter covered in all levels of high school Biology. They will need to collaborate with colleagues both within and outside of the science department and have experience maintaining a chemical stock room as well as be knowledgeable about the storage and/or proper disposal of chemical waste. They must maintain a clean, safe, and positive working environment for both students and faculty. The High School Biology Teacher reports to the principal.
Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides learning experiences in Biology, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating and environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate; Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn; Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning; Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification; Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed; Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must have the following: Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Biology 8-12 by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education; Meets all Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher; Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults; Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.
