QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate secondary science endorsement(s) required. Candidates holding multiple science endorsements are strongly preferred, including:
DI (Integrated Science
DX (Physical Science)
DA (Chemistry)
DC (Biology)
DE (Earth/Space Science)
DH (Physics)
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong understanding of the Michigan Science Standards (MSS) and inquiry-based instructional practices
Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate laboratory, investigative, and hands-on learning experiences
Experience utilizing technology, digital learning tools, and instructional software to support student learning
Experience with or willingness to implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), differentiated instruction, and intervention practices
Commitment to Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) and relationship-centered educational practices
Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and executive functioning needs
Willingness to participate in district-provided training opportunities, including CPI, CPR/First Aid, and district instructional initiatives
Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural competence
Knowledge of one's own competence in the area of diversity and equity, how this influences behavior, and a desire to learn about others' identities and experiences
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction consistent with Michigan Science Standards and district curriculum expectations
Design and facilitate laboratory, inquiry-based, project-based, and hands-on learning experiences that promote scientific thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including direct instruction, collaborative learning, small-group intervention, and technology-enhanced learning experiences
Establish and maintain classroom routines, expectations, and procedures consistent with district and building practices
Support and implement the tenets of Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) and relationship-centered classroom practices
Utilize a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and differentiated instructional practices to meet varying student needs
Use assessment data to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and implement targeted interventions
Establish clear learning targets, success criteria, and performance expectations for students
Maintain safe laboratory environments and ensure adherence to all safety procedures and protocols
Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and engagement and communicate progress with families and staff as needed
Collaborate with colleagues, interventionists, special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support student success
Implement IEPs, 504 Plans, intervention plans, accommodations, and modifications with fidelity
Support students with varying academic, behavioral, social-emotional, executive functioning, and regulatory needs, including students who may demonstrate disruptive, dysregulated, unsafe, or escalated behaviors
Implement classroom management, de-escalation, and student support strategies aligned with district practices and training
Respond calmly, safely, and appropriately to student behavioral escalation or crisis situations
Utilize technology and digital instructional tools as an integral component of instructional delivery, assessment, communication, documentation, and professional responsibilities
Monitor student progress, maintain accurate attendance and grade records, and communicate student achievement through district systems
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, professional development activities, and continuous improvement initiatives
Perform additional duties as assigned

Lift, carry, move, and organize laboratory materials, instructional resources, technology equipment, and classroom supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
Use hands and arms to safely operate laboratory equipment, instructional technology, classroom tools, and educational resources
Frequently use computers, instructional technology, digital learning platforms, and electronic communication systems for extended periods throughout the workday
View computer screens, read digital content, analyze student performance data, and utilize educational technology systems as an essential function of the position
Communicate effectively with students, staff, families, and community partners
The work environment may include:
Frequent movement, transitions, laboratory activities, and varying noise levels
Working with laboratory materials, equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures consistent with science instruction
Supporting students with varying academic, behavioral, social-emotional, executive functioning, and regulatory needs
Exposure to unpredictable student behaviors or crisis situations
This role also requires:
The ability to maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
The ability to supervise students during laboratory investigations and hands-on learning experiences
The ability to implement de-escalation strategies and maintain a safe educational environment
Collaboration with colleagues, families, community partners, and support staff in a fast-paced educational environment
WORK LOCATION REQUIREMENT
This position is an in-person role requiring regular, on-site attendance. The essential functions of this position cannot be performed remotely.
