Full-Time Chemistry Instructor, Organic Chemistry Concentration Harris-Stowe State University - 3.5 St. Louis, MO Job Details Full-time $58,909 a year 16 hours ago Qualifications Working with post-secondary students Writing skills Working with undergraduate students Full Job Description SUMMARY The College of Science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Harris-Stowe State University is seeking to launch a new academic program in forensic chemistry by hiring a qualified instructor to teach organic and/or forensic organic chemistry courses. The Appointment is for AY2026-27 and starts as early as January 01, 2026. The appointment is eligible for renewal and for progression to tenure status based on funding and performance. This position is 100% grant funded for a 3-year period.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares and delivers lectures, leads discussions, and performs other activities which are related to, and meet, course requirements for relevant Chemistry course(s). Maintains course syllabi and provides each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of each semester. Conducts appropriate evaluations of students' performances and assigns grades based on those evaluations. Maintains and provides reports and/or records of student grades and attendance according to University requirements. Becomes familiar with, utilizes and/or adheres to institutional and college tools and policies, including the Canvas Learning Management System, attendance, grade-reporting and record-keeping. Attend faculty-specific orientation meetings with the Dean, Chair, and/or with the institution. Contribute to the development of the new chemistry academic program, focused on forensic chemistry.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must possess a Doctorate or a Master's Degree in Chemistry, with a concentration in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field, from an accredited university. In addition, a minimum of eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate level coursework must be related to the area of instruction.
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong understanding of the pedagogies of University level teaching, particularly for first generation University students. Good Knowledge of principles and theory of teaching field. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and University community.
