Jun 01, 2026 7:03 PM (UTC) Job Description Position Summary The Middle Grades Science Teacher (Grades 6–8) is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging science instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS). The teacher will foster inquiry-based learning experiences that promote scientific thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and academic growth while creating a safe and supportive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and student achievement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and deliver standards-based science instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for grades 6–8 science. Develop and implement engaging lessons that incorporate scientific inquiry, hands-on investigations, technology, and real-world applications. Create learning experiences that develop students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to address diverse learning styles and student needs. Differentiate instruction to support all learners, including students with disabilities, English language learners, academically gifted students, and students requiring intervention. Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student understanding and academic growth. Analyze student performance data and adjust instructional practices to improve achievement outcomes. Maintain an organized and safe classroom and laboratory environment while ensuring proper use of materials, equipment, and safety procedures. Establish and maintain effective classroom management practices that support a positive learning environment. Integrate technology and digital resources to enhance science instruction and student engagement. Collaborate with grade-level teams, Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), instructional coaches, and administration to improve instructional practices and student outcomes. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs. Participate in school initiatives, professional development activities, and district-required training. Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, assessments, and student information according to district policies. Perform other duties as assigned by administration. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of middle grades science curriculum and instructional best practices. Knowledge of scientific inquiry processes and laboratory safety procedures. Understanding of child and adolescent development. Ability to analyze student data and use findings to guide instruction. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Ability to effectively integrate technology into instruction. Ability to collaborate and contribute as part of a professional learning community. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Science, or related field. Must hold or be eligible for a valid North Carolina teaching license in Middle Grades Science (Grades 6–9) or an appropriate licensure area. Demonstrated knowledge of science content and instructional practices.
