We are seeking a passionate and committed teacher to join our qualified team of educators. As a teacher, you will be responsible for cultivating the students' interest in education and development. Your responsibilities will include teaching the appropriate course of study following the state standards for the subject matter by using various instructional strategies that meet individual learning styles. As a teacher of Garfield Heights City Schools, you should have a passion and love for teaching students in an urban community. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of teaching best practices and vital innovation and interpersonal skills.NOTE:

Ensure safety and supervision of students Teach assigned science courses using state standards and effective instructional practices Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment Prepare lesson plans, assignments, and assessments Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technology Demonstrate and supervise safe use of science equipment and materials Maintain confidentiality regarding student information Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff Attend conferences, meetings, and professional development activities Collaborate with colleagues and support student interventions when needed Provide lesson plans and procedures for substitute teachers Support district and building goals, policies, and procedures Promote positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community Create a classroom environment conducive to learning Follow professional ethics and standards of conduct Perform other duties assigned by the Principal or designeeOther Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
- Support school, enforce school rules and policies
- Participate on building level teams and/or teacher based teams and/or district level "teams"
- Organize various subject specific programs within assigned building, e.g., Right to Read Week
- Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices
- Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon
- Serve as a role model for students
- Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Serve on committees and cocurricular activities as agreed upon
- Supervise student teachers
- Discipline students when necessary following the district PBIS model
- Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant or designee
About You:
Active and current state of Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area Bachelor's degree in education or related field High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to appropriately manage confidential information Able to supervise students of various ages in different school settings (playground, cafeteria, etc.) Training in varied instructional designs Skills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom management Knowledge in child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks Educational pedagogy Student/teacher professional relationship Technology skills eg. electronic grades, moodle Basic first aid Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks Experience working within an urban environment Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university Less than one year related experience Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriateAbout Our District:
The Garfield Heights City Schools collaboratively and cooperatively serve students and families of the City of Garfield Heights. Located in Cuyahoga County and bordered on the north by the City of Cleveland proper, and on all other sides by the first ring communities of Northeast Ohio. Our District proudly serves approximately 3,500 students in three Kindergarten through Grade 5 schools, one middle school, and one high school. To that end, Garfield Heights High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including AP English, AP Government, AP American History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Calculus, Honors Physical Science, and more. While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior. A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A 'Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
