Position:
General Science Teacher Reports to: Principal - Assistant Principal
Assignment:
189 days 7.5 hours/day
Preferred Certification:
General Science and/or Earth and Space Science certification preferred.
Job Summary:
The Science Teacher provides instruction in General Science and Earth and Space Science in accordance with the West Perry School District curriculum. The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that promotes student achievement, engagement, and scientific inquiry. The successful candidate will foster a positive, safe, and productive learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and exploration of scientific concepts. Responsibilities include maintaining effective classroom management and ensuring adherence to all laboratory safety procedures and protocols. procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in General Science and/or Earth & Space Science. Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate. Demonstrate competency in the subject area(s) assigned. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and delivers a science program that includes demonstrations, lectures, discussion, and student experiments. Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific experiments, and standards or other instructional aids. Instructs pupils in proper use, care and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment, and plant and animal life. Uses a variety of research-based instructional practices and current resources that support instructional goals and student needs. Implement advances in science and technology through classroom activities. Models and facilitates problem solving, creativity and flexibility. Makes students aware of assessment standards/learner expectations. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Communicates realistic and consistent expectations for student behavior and applies appropriate consequences. Models enthusiasm for learning and teaching. Creates a positive, inviting and safe learning environment. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Maintain confidentiality. Other duties as assigned. Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent.
