Position Summary West Catholic Preparatory High School seeks a mission-driven, student-centered Chemistry Teacher who is committed to academic excellence, scientific inquiry, and the holistic formation of students. The ideal candidate believes all students can succeed in rigorous science coursework, builds strong relationships while maintaining high expectations, and contributes positively to a Catholic school community rooted in service, character, leadership, and preparation for life. This teacher will use Savvas science curricular resources and implement NGSS-aligned instruction to create engaging, inquiry-based Chemistry lessons that include laboratory investigations, data analysis, scientific reasoning, collaboration, and real-world application. The ideal candidate will be resilient, coachable, collaborative, and committed to doing the consistent, demanding work necessary to support student growth. Roles and Responsibilities Plan, develop, and execute engaging Chemistry lessons that reflect Savvas science curricular resources and align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Implement a rigorous, standards-aligned Chemistry curriculum that emphasizes scientific inquiry, laboratory investigations, data analysis, problem-solving, and real-world application of chemistry concepts. Adapt Chemistry instruction for individual, small-group, and whole-class learning to meet the needs of diverse learners, using assessment data to guide instructional decisions. Facilitate hands-on laboratory experiences and demonstrations that promote student understanding of chemical principles, scientific practices, and safe lab procedures. Model scientific thinking, problem-solving strategies, proper laboratory techniques, and evidence-based reasoning for students. Teach students to analyze data, interpret models, construct explanations, and support scientific claims with evidence. Employ a broad range of instructional strategies, including demonstrations, discussions, inquiry-based learning, collaborative activities, technology integration, and laboratory investigations, to maximize student engagement and learning. Build strong relationships with students while maintaining clear behavioral, academic, and laboratory expectations. Lead students to grow in confidence as science learners and to take responsibility for their academic progress, lab work, and scientific thinking. Promote student engagement through positive reinforcement, clear expectations, diverse learning strategies, and meaningful connections between Chemistry and everyday life. Create an interactive and safe classroom environment that maintains student interest, supports inquiry, and encourages responsible participation in laboratory and classroom activities. Evaluate student progress toward mastery of Chemistry content, NGSS-aligned science practices, laboratory skills, and course standards. Use formative assessment, student work, and performance data to identify gaps in understanding and adjust instruction accordingly. Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback that helps students revise their thinking, improve their work, and take ownership of their learning. Establish and maintain clear standards of student behavior, classroom routines, laboratory safety, and academic integrity. Utilize educational resources and equipment, including Savvas digital and print materials, laboratory equipment, simulations, models, technology tools, and other instructional materials. Adapt teaching methods, materials, and assessments to meet students' varying academic needs, learning styles, and readiness levels. Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support consistent instructional expectations, student growth, and schoolwide goals. Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators to support student success and advance course goals. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field. Preferred:
Active Pennsylvania State Teacher Certification in Science, Chemistry, or a related science certification area. Candidates without an active Pennsylvania State Certification must have a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester hours of college credit in Chemistry or a closely related science field to demonstrate subject-area competency.
