Job Description

Job Summary The Middle Years Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned science instruction to students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator who fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning while helping students build strong scientific reasoning skills. The teacher plays a key role in promoting scientific literacy, designing hands-on learning experiences, and supporting students' academic growth through culturally responsive and differentiated instruction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Planning & Instruction Plan and implement high-quality, grade-level science lessons aligned to state and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Create engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that include labs, experiments, and real-world applications. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Integrate literacy, data analysis, and technology into science instruction to promote 21st-century skills. Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Analyze student data to identify trends, set goals, and implement targeted interventions. Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student learning and growth. Classroom Culture & Management Establish a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters inquiry and respect. Set and reinforce clear expectations for behavior and academic engagement. Use restorative practices, SEL strategies, and proactive behavior management to maintain a positive classroom climate. Collaboration and Professional Growth Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary projects, analyze data, and align instructional practices. Participate in grade-level teams, professional development sessions, and science department meetings. Communicate regularly with families about student progress, assignments, and classroom activities. Contribute to the school community by supporting events, clubs, or enrichment opportunities as appropriate. Attend all required meetings Perform dismissal duties as assigned. Commit to ongoing professional growth opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or related field. Valid PA teaching certification; Science Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for diverse learners, including those with major gaps in instruction. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education, with a focus on promoting equitable learning experiences for all students.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, school-year position with additional days as required for professional development and preparation.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with experience and qualifications, as outlined by the school's salary scale.
