The Health Science Teacher provides instruction in health science pathways to prepare high school students for careers in healthcare. The teacher delivers standards-based curriculum, integrates hands-on clinical and lab experiences, and supports students in developing technical skills, employability skills, and industry certifications.EDUCATION
Possess a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Related Area as a healthcare professional related to health science from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or approved by the State Board of Education (a diploma graduate of nursing would qualify) College transcripts must include satisfactory completion of two semesters of general biology with a laboratory component.EXPERIENCE
Documentation of 2 years minimum employment in healthcare as a licensed, certified or registered healthcare professional. Prior teaching or training experience preferredLICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Valid teaching certification in CTE Health Science (or eligibility to obtain)ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential job duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties assigned. Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state CTE Health Science standards Incorporate real-world applications, simulations, and lab-based instruction Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs Maintain a safe and organized lab/clinical classroom environment Teach proper use of medical equipment and safety protocols Coordinate and supervise clinical experiences, internships, or job shadowing opportunities (if applicable) Prepare students for healthcare certifications (e.g., Stop the Bleed, CNA, CPR/First Aid) Support development of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and professionalism Advise and support student organizations such as HOSA (Future Health Professionals) Assess student performance using formative and summative methods Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and competencies Collaborate with school counselors and administration on student pathways Build partnerships with local healthcare providers and industry stakeholders Participate in advisory committees and program improvement efforts Maintain current knowledge of healthcare practices and industry trends Participate in professional development and required CTE training Comply with district, state, and federal policies Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and industry partners to develop professional skills in students Strives to implement by instruction and action the institute's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives Prepares lesson plans for daily classroom activities; organizes classroom, and laboratory area for daily instruction. Provides limited lectures, demonstrates and uses teaching technology aids to present subject matter to class. Selects and requests instructional aids and supplies; maintains inventory of supplies and materials needed for classroom activities. Counsels students in adjustment and academic problems; provides feedback to students. Meets with parents and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issues reports to inform parents of students' progress. Operates general office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, etc. Interacts with students, parents, district staff and personnel, industry partners, government agencies, etc. Performs other related duties as required. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning.Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of training methods used and actual practice used in classrooms with students. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities.
Ability to provide Instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice.
