POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Biology at Southwestern University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of Biology position for the 2026-2027 academic year. We seek an enthusiastic educator committed to dynamic teaching and the use of active-learning approaches in the classroom and laboratory. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester. In Fall 2026, the faculty member will contribute one course each to our first-year foundational lecture and laboratory sequence in the areas of Ecology and Evolution and teach an upper level lecture in Conservation Biology (BIO50-384). In Spring 2027, the faculty member will teach an upper-level lecture course in Evolutionary Biology (BIO50-334) and then an additional upper-level Ecology course with a laboratory (BIO50-434) where we expect students to gain some field experience that can vary depending on the expertise of the faculty (i.e., terrestrial or aquatic).
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a Master's degree in Biology or closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline (Ph.D. preferred). Evidence of ability and desire to engage students through active learning, inclusive teaching practices, and experiential laboratory instruction. Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.

The annual salary for this 9-month position is $50,000 for individuals with the terminal degree in-hand by August 1 (Assistant Professor) or $47,000 for individuals with the Master's degree in-hand by August 1 (Instructor).
