Job Description
The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) is a nonprofit PK-12 private school located in The Woodlands/Tomball area dedicated to igniting and growing a love of learning in every child. CTL values inquiry, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and meaningful relationships. Our classrooms are student-centered, project-based, and grounded in a deep respect for children and the learning process. CTL is seeking a passionate, collaborative, and student-centered educator to serve as a half-day Grades 3-4 Math & Science Teacher and half-day Grades 5-6 Math & Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This teacher will work closely with classroom teachers and school leadership to create engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that support both academic growth and curiosity-driven exploration. Position Overview The teacher will provide math and science instruction to multi-age students in Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6 within a supportive, relationship-centered environment. Instruction should reflect CTL's mission and philosophy by balancing strong academic foundations with hands-on learning, problem solving, student inquiry, and real-world application. The ideal candidate understands how to foster both confidence and challenge in mathematics and science while building a classroom culture where students feel known, valued, and inspired to learn. Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate math and science instruction for students in Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6 Use inquiry-based and project-based approaches to support conceptual understanding and student engagement Differentiate instruction to meet a range of learning needs and abilities Integrate hands-on investigations, collaboration, discussion, and authentic problem-solving experiences Align instruction with TEKS, NGSS, and CTL curricular goals Utilize instructional resources such as STEMscopes and other school-supported materials as appropriate Foster student curiosity, critical thinking, and independence Assessment & Communication Use formative assessment practices to guide instruction and monitor student growth Maintain anecdotal notes, student work samples, and assessment data Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and classroom learning Participate in student-led conferences, progress reporting, and portfolio development Collaboration & School Culture Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional learning, coaching conversations, and Inquiry Labs Contribute positively to CTL's collaborative and reflective professional culture Support school events, field trips, and community activities as needed Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required Teaching certification preferred Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school math and science preferred Strong understanding of child-centered and inquiry-based instruction Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners Excellent communication and collaboration skills Warm, flexible, reflective, and growth-oriented mindset Commitment to building positive relationships with students and families Preferred Qualities The ideal candidate: Loves working with children and believes deeply in student-centered learning Creates a classroom culture grounded in curiosity, respect, and joy Values creativity, collaboration, and authentic learning experiences Is organized, proactive, and reflective Enjoys working within a collaborative school community Schedule Half-day teaching assignment with Grades 3-4 Math & Science Half-day teaching assignment with Grades 5-6 Math & Science Participation in Friday professional development and faculty collaboration meetings required To Apply Interested candidates should submit a resume and letter of interest to: Dr. Linda Ellis, Head of School lellis@centerforteachingandlearning.com Center for
