  • Full-time High School STEM Teacher (Math & Science) Boys Home of Virginia seeks a dynamic and engaging High School Science and Teacher to teach a combination of high school mathematics and science courses in grades 9-12.
The ideal candidate will foster curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and academic confidence through engaging instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and strong relationship-building with students. This teacher will create a structured and supportive classroom environment that reflects the mission and values of Boys Home of Virginia. Essential Responsibilities Instruction & Student Engagement Plan and deliver engaging lessons in mathematics and science aligned with school curriculum standards. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including inquiry-based learning, hands-on activities, and real-world applications. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs and learning styles of students. Foster student participation, confidence, and collaboration through discussion, problem-solving, and interactive learning activities. Maintain a structured classroom environment that supports accountability, curiosity, respect, and academic growth. Assessment & Academic Support Assess student learning through assignments, projects, labs, quizzes, tests, and exams. Provide timely feedback and support to help students improve academically. Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with staff and families regarding student progress. Support students in developing organizational skills, study habits, and responsibility. Laboratory & Applied Learning Plan and supervise laboratory experiments and hands-on science investigations while maintaining appropriate safety procedures. Incorporate practical applications of math and science concepts into instruction whenever possible. Encourage analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, and mathematical problem-solving. Collaboration & Community Collaborate with teachers, administrators, residential staff to promote student success. Encourage positive behavior and character development consistent with the mission and values of Boys Home of Virginia. Participate in professional development and contribute positively to the overall school community. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field. Experience teaching secondary math and/or science or working with adolescents. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in independent schools, alternative education, or residential programs. Ability to incorporate technology and interactive teaching methods into instruction. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong content knowledge in high school math and science. Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners. Ability to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences. Strong relationship-building and mentoring skills. Commitment to helping students succeed academically and personally in a residential school setting.
