Teacher is responsible for preparing students to be primary providers of home• family• or institution-based childcare services by focusing on the planning, organizing, and conducting of meaningful play and learning activities; child monitoring and supervision; recordkeeping and referral procedures; and work-based learning experiences in on-site labs, local daycare centers, elementary schools, and other institutions under the supervision of the instructor. teacher also prepare students for continuing education leading to careers in early childhood fields (e.g., medical, social services, education).. The Family and Consumer Science Teacher is directly responsible to the principal or his/her designee. Essential Job Functions Evaluates each student's progress in concepts and skills of subjects taught and a contribution to a group project or goal. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and equipment, maintains required inventory records, purchases supplies as authorized. Encourages students to demonstrate learned techniques at home with their families and in childcare settings. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students to solve health, attitude and learning problems. Supervises students in out-of-classroom and other development programs. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Maintains current vocational information for students interested in professional careers and resource materials for those who plan to be child care workers. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities. Attends staff meetings, PTA meetings, and serves on staff committees as required. Performs other related duties as requested. Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required) Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning. Knowledge of a wide range of scientific subject areas. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree Certification and Licensure:
Virginia professional license or ability to obtain a license. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
