Job Description
Spotsylvania's Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Instructor to plan and provide engaging learning experiences for students in the field of Mental Health and Behavioral Science. Our Career and Technical Education Instructors develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student. Additionally, this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.
Course Description:
Mental Health and Behavioral Science I:
This course provides classroom instruction and hands-on learning experiences in preparation for careers in mental health services and related fields. Students gain foundational knowledge and skills in providing routine care, performing therapeutic procedures, responding to emergency situations, supporting patient rehabilitation, and facilitating recreational and therapeutic activities. Students prepare to assist mental health professionals in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community mental health settings. Contextual instruction and participation in co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) activities help students develop leadership, interpersonal, and career readiness skills. High-Quality Work-Based Learning (HQWBL) experiences provide students with experiential learning opportunities aligned to career interests and goals through partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
Mental Health and Behavioral Science II:
In this course, students continue exploring mental health careers through advanced study of pharmacology principles, treatment planning, mental health communication strategies, and data collection and analysis. Students further develop teamwork, leadership, CPR/First Aid, and emergency care skills while applying knowledge in authentic learning environments. Contextual instruction and participation in co-curricular CTSO activities continue to strengthen leadership, interpersonal, and workplace readiness skills. High-Quality Work-Based Learning (HQWBL) opportunities provide students with meaningful experiential learning connected to career pathways and industry partnerships.
Essential Functions:
Designs instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, industry, and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs
Develops authentic, engaging, hands-on learning lessons and evaluates student progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepare progress reports
Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Spotsylvania County School Board policy, the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and administrative regulation
Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals
Develops, maintains, and supervises clinical experiences for EMT students
Remains current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of Emergency Medical Technicians
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements, including the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services

Education and Experience:
Required
Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field of education or the equivalent in credentialing, training, and/or experience.
Ability to obtain additional/appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
Preferred
Currently possesses a Technical Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
Prior teaching experience within a vocational educational program
