POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Science Teacher will be motivated to make a positive impact on high school students while keeping a focus on academic success and help students achieve their fullest potential. The Science Teacher will engage positively and professionally with the high school team to create a positive culture and ensure student success.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Demonstrate a clear commitment to adult and adolescent development and learning, and collaboration with a growth mindset in his/her professional practice. Plan, prepare, and facilitate instruction for the prescribed curriculum for the subject area(s) he/she is teaching. Manage the learning process, evaluate student performance, maintain records, and plan lessons. Understand and apply strategies (e.g. differentiation and extension) and best practices (eg. models, think-aloud, mini-lessons, multiple drafts, reflection, effective group work) to ensure student success. Implement, execute, and measure academic success at the classroom level. Use data collected using formative and summative assessments to discuss and inform instruction. Assist with the ongoing review and improvement of processes and procedures related to the school. Follow established teaching protocols and programs to ensure consistency among classes. Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community. Oversee classroom discipline and escalate issues to appropriate personnel, as applicable. High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents. High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents. Participate in and attend all faculty meetings and professional development sessions Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concerts, and achievement with students, families, and the school community. Provide leadership in ensuring a positive school culture for adults and students. Use and integrate technology in classroom and project instruction. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Arts/Science from a four-year college or university - preferably courses to have been in one or combination of physics, science, engineering, and/or computer science (Master's degree a plus)

Required Certifications/Licenses:

Licensed educator or working toward licensure

Experience:

Prefer but not required - Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering certification. Training can be provided. 1-2 years of experience in education, preferably in an urban city classroom and realizing significant gains
