Education:
Minimum of an associate's degree in nursing (ADN), Allied Health, or a closely related medical field. (Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred)Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of recent, full-time clinical or practical work experience in the healthcare fieldCertification:
Must hold a valid, unencumbered healthcare credential (e.g. RN, LPN, Paramedic, or Medical Technologies)Teaching Certification:
Must be eligible for or hold a valid Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate in West Virginia. Ability to meet and maintain adjunct faculty approval standards through our higher education dual credit partner (New River Community and Technical College). Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.Job Summary:
Pocahontas County School is seeking an energetic, dedicated Health Sciences professional to lead our Career and Technical Education (CTE) Health Sciences program. In this role, you will prepare high school students for careers in the healthcare field, while enabling them to earn both high school and college credit through our dual enrollment partnership with New River Community and Technical College. Expectations /Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Dual Credit Teaching:
Deliver engaging and rigorous instruction in the health sciences aligned with both high school and college-level syllabi.Curriculum Delivery:
Teach a planned sequence of Allied Health and Health Science courses aligned with state CTE standards and local dual-credit articulation agreements.Clinical Skills Training:
Facilitate hands-on lab experiences and supervise students in clinical or simulated healthcare environments, covering areas like vital signs, patient care, and medical terminology.Student Mentorship:
Advise students on health career pathways, postsecondary program requirements, and workforce opportunities.Certification Preparation:
Guide students through the requirements and testing for industry-standard credentials (such as AHA CPR/First Aid, OSHA-10 Healthcare, and State CNA).CTSO Advising:
Serve as advisor for the Career and Technical Student Organization (e.g., SkillsUSA or FPSA), coordinating student leadership activities, conferences, and competitions.Advisory Council & Partnerships:
Collaborate with local industry partners, healthcare agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure curriculum alignment with workforce expectations. Work with colleagues and business/industry partners to expand student opportunities.Simulated Workplace Implementation:
Establish and maintain a simulated workplace environment that reflects West Virginia workforce standards, including expectations for professionalism, attendance, safety, and random drug testing protocols.Collaboration & Program Relevance:
Work collaboratively with colleagues, students, families, and the community to ensure the program remains relevant, rigorous, and aligned with real-world workforce needs.Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain appropriate student behavior and discipline in the classroom, on school grounds, and during school-sponsored activities.Student Records & Documentation:
Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress, performance, and interventions.Professional Relationships:
Build and sustain effective working relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff, administration, and community members.Communication:
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and program expectations.Professional Development:
Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards, recommendations, and requirements.Professionalism:
Demonstrate consistent professionalism, including punctuality, preparedness, organization, and the ability to provide appropriate plans for substitute teachers when needed.Ethics & Confidentiality:
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all professional responsibilities and interactions.Additional Responsibilities:

Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/ technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60- 90 dB).
