Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Martial Arts Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Muay Thai and/or Boxing and/or Kickboxing and/or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , and possess the skills to educate and inspire students of all ages. This role involves teaching martial arts techniques, promoting physical fitness, and fostering a positive learning environment. We prioritize a positive, warm culture and environment in which team members and students can thrive. Responsibilities Aid in developing and implementing engaging lesson plans that cater to various skill levels. Instruct students in martial arts techniques , focusing on Muay Thai/Kickboxing while incorporating elements of sports coaching . Educate students on the importance of discipline, respect, and physical fitness through martial arts. Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their skills and confidence. Organize and lead practice sessions, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times. Assist in the execution of Physical Assessment Testing. Maintain a clean and safe training environment for all participants. Communicate effectively with students and their parents regarding progress and areas for improvement. Assist in organizing and executing special events, parent activities, and transitioning students between activities. Assume communications responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Mixed Martial Arts including but not limited to daily notes to volunteers, necessary student paperwork, accountability, and addressing parent and member concerns during drop-off and dismissal. Requirements Experience in Muay Thai and/or Boxing and/or Kickboxing and/or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is required. Previous experience working with students in a teaching or coaching capacity is highly desirable. Skills in additional sports such as basketball or cheerleading are a plus. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with students of all ages. A passion for teaching martial arts and physical education and promoting healthy lifestyles through martial arts. Certification in lifeguarding or first aid is an advantage but not mandatory.

Monday-Friday (9:00am-4:00pm
- Likely starting with 2 to 3 half day shifts)

HIT THE BOOKS
Hit the Books ("HTB") aims to bring additional educational resources to underserved communities through a sports
- based development approach, with tutoring and mentorship at its core and mixed martial arts as the 'hook 'to get kids engaged in the program.
HTB will serve as an after-school community center to facilitate career development and help make any and every goal achievable for its students.
Assistant Martial Arts Coach/Instructor:
Summary of Position A minimum of two years experience in at least one of the following martial-arts/sports is required:
- Muay Thai
- Kickboxing
- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- Boxing.
The Hit the Books Assistant Martial Arts Coach/Instructor participates in developing, implementing, supervising and evaluating educational, recreational, and social programs to meet needs and interests of members ages 7-13 in the Hit the Books facility (located at 340 St. Nicholas Avenue in Harlem, NYC). She/he will also assist in managing the daily classes within our facility, helping to lead the martial arts component of our summer program—leading classes in exercise, martial arts and healthy choices. The Martial Arts Program Assistant Coach will help supervise indoor martial arts activities and help lead outdoor fitness activities when permitted. This is a part-time position, five days per week (Monday through Friday). How Hit The Books Achieves Our Mission
- HTB provides after-school educational programs, mentorship, and mixed martial art classes to kids in Harlem aged 7-13 in order to help our students progress outside of the classroom intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.
- HTB will expose its students to educational and professional opportunities that may otherwise pass them by, fostering an environment of educational equality.
- In addition to enhancing the educational resources available to children in our targeted communities, HTB will develop into a community within a community, where children feel safe and view the facility as a second home.
