Job Description
Overview Teaching Professional Overview This position offers an exciting opportunity for a Certified Teaching Professional to become an independent contractor for the Lake Oswego Public Golf Course (LOPGC), part of the City of Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation (LOPR) department. The Certified Teaching Professional will be part of our team that will provide golf instruction and programming for the newly-redesigned 9-hole executive golf course with an updated driving range. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with our Golf Coordinator to develop and implement targeted programs to engage specific groups of golfers. This position is strictly to provide instruction. No pro shop or golf course management responsibilities. Essential Responsibilities Create a FUN, welcoming, and safe learning environment for all participants. Promote health, wellness, and social connection through golf. Align with and promote the City's core values of Respect, Excellence, Trust, and Service Promote a professional team dynamic and foster relationships with other golf professionals and Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation (LOPR) staff.
Golf Instruction and Player Development:
Provide individual and group lessons using advanced techniques to assess and improve swing mechanics and overall game performance. Effective follow up practices to deepen engagement with student/clients. Develop personalized lesson plans and long-term development strategies, focusing on fundamental skills and tracking player progress. Design and deliver innovative and engaging golf instruction programs and camps that meet the needs of specific target groups. Provide individual and group lessons for beginner to intermediate golfers Collaborate with LOPGC staff, LOPR staff, and others for scheduling and curriculum development. Setup and take down for lessons, programs, and camps. Manage your finances and accounting as an independent contractor. Stay current with LOPGC events and promotions in order to promote them when appropriate. Compensation As mentioned above, this is an independent contractor role. Rates charged to the customer are set by the contractor. Commission from the lessons will be split 80% independent PGA contractor/20% LOPGC. In terms of range, past professionals who taught successfully averaged a gross lesson rate range of $100-$120/hr. Potential income for a "full time" independent contractor teaching professional projected from $65k-$80k or more. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred PGA Class A member in good standing or PGA Associate in process of becoming a Class A member Proven track record of successful instruction Ability to adapt teaching methods and create a supportive learning environment Social and interpersonal skills required to interact with all LOPGC guests Familiarity with swing analysis technology and launch monitor technology Ability to provide consistent availability Candidates with a genuine interest in this opportunity are encouraged to apply or reach out to Joon Yang, Golf Coordinator for LOPGC ( jyang@lakeoswego.city ).
