Job Description

Position Overview As a Merit Badge Instructor, you will mentor Scouts (ages 11-17) through merit badge programs in the outdoor skills (Scoutcraft). You'll instruct small groups, foster personal growth, and help deliver memorable summer camp experiences. This role requires adaptability, interpersonal skills, and a passion for instruction and the Scouting mission. Key Responsibilities Teach and mentor Scouts in outdoor skills (Scoutcraft) Lead or assist in leading engaging group instruction for 5-20 Scouts (youth) Prepare and organize instructional materials and program resources Submit accurate advancement paperwork promptly Support camp-wide programs such as campfires and evening events Assist with setup, maintenance, and takedown of program and camping areas Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook Qualifications Minimum age: 18+ Strong communication and presentation skills with youth and adults Background in Scouting and in Scouting skill instruction (preferred) Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening) Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication PhysicalPractical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record , including height/weight guidelines

As one of Scouting America's National High Adventure Bases, the Summit provides transformative experiences for Scouts and other youth. At Justice National Scout Camp, Scouts (ages 10-17) participate in more than 80 merit badge programs in areas such as aquatics, climbing, S.T.E.M., arts and media, citizenship, and outdoor skills. They also enjoy high-adventure activities like mountain biking, rafting, and skateboarding, as well as classic camp traditions like flag ceremonies and campfires. We're seeking dedicated staff members who can inspire, guide, and empower the next generation of leaders!
