Department Summary The Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health at the University of Oregon Portland establishes a new national model for behavioral healthcare for children and families by creating a first-of-its-kind undergraduate training program in child behavioral health. The institute prioritizes the needs of youth who have been historically or persistently underserved and seeks to make real system change by:- Creating a new mental health profession
- Delivering support in schools and the community
- Training existing youth-serving professionals
- Developing new approaches to support child behavioral health
- Transforming the Pacific Northwest into a national model of thought and action.
Winter Term:
undergraduate Prevention and Intervention course delivered in person,Portland Oregon Spring Term:
graduate Trauma-Informed Supports course delivered virtually in the evenings Other needs may arise throughout the year. Minimum Requirements Terminal degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a closely related behavioral health field. In certain circumstances, a master's degree in a relevant field with related experience may substitute for a terminal degree. Professional Competencies Demonstrated ability to mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds. Cross-cultural communication skills. Commitment to an inclusive environment. Preferred Qualifications University-level teaching experience. Ph.D in psychology, counseling, social work, or closely related behavioral health field.
