Description :
The Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW) at the University of Houston seeks a dynamic and interdisciplinary non-tenure track Research Associate Professor to advance the College's strategic priorities in community partnerships and engagement, research innovation, and workforce development. This role reflects a futures-focused vision—one that anticipates emerging social challenges, leverages interdisciplinary collaboration, and positions the College at the forefront of innovative, impact-driven interdisciplinary research, education and scholarship. This position is designed for a scholar-practitioner with a strong record of community-engaged research and grant development, who will play a central role in expanding the College's community engagement footprint across Houston and beyond. This position will also support the doctoral program by providing dissertation guidance and high-impact student outcomes towards degree completion. The Research Associate Professor will lead efforts to build and sustain community engagement partnerships across campus—including UH Health—and with community-based organizations (local and rural), focusing on health promotion across the life span, behavioral health, and human-centered artificial intelligence (AI). Central to this role is seeding the development of the GCSW Futures Collaboratory, positioning the College at the forefront of interdisciplinary innovation by integrating research, practice, and training with both internal and external community stakeholders. Primary Responsibilities Community Engagement & Partnership Development
  • Lead development of strategic partnerships across Houston and surrounding communities.
  • Collaborate with UH Health partners (Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry), Third Ward Community as well as across University of Houston System campuses.
  • Establish community-engaged research initiatives aligned with GCSW priorities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the College and community stakeholders. Research & Grant Development
  • Develop and support external funding proposals (HRSA, NIH, NSF, Foundations).
  • Focus on health promotion across the lifespan, behavioral health, and human-centered AI, in Texas and beyond. Doctoral Program Support
  • Supervise dissertation research.
  • Support curriculum development and doctoral student mentorship. Teaching & Scholarly Engagement
  • Provide expertise on the integration of experiential and community-engaged teaching, research, and application.
  • Disseminate research through publications and presentations. Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Sciences, or related field
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Interests in implementing community engaged teaching in higher education Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Social Work; DSW; PhD in Curriculum and Instruction; EdD or related field.
  • Demonstrated grant writing and funded research in health promotion
  • Experience developing mentoring programs and learning community models
