Qualifications:

Must hold Alaska state licensure and Type C certification for teaching deaf/hard of hearing students; applicants with pending licensure will also be considered with proof. Proven experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students or in similar educational settings. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Flexibility to work variable hours typically between 8 AM and 4 PM.

Role Overview:

Teachers of the Hard of Hearing plan and provide learning experiences for students with disabilities, including cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities, in a variety of educational settings. These teachers create a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction; establishes effective rapport with students; may modify general education curriculum to meet students' needs with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports; and establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

37.5-40 hours per week August 17, 2026 - May 28, 2027 Flexibility to work variable hours typically between 8 AM and 4 PM In person only

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver tailored instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting curriculum to meet individual needs. Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other support staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion. Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining detailed records and communicating with families and educational teams. Provide assistive technology support and implement strategies to enhance communication. Travel onsite as required across grade levels within the school to support students effectively. Work to develop teaching strategies, approaches, specialist materials and resources to support deaf pupils.
