Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a significant difference in young learners' lives as a Behavior Special Education Teacher in a supportive elementary school setting. This impactful contract role is centered in a self-contained classroom, working with K-6 students who display severe behaviors. By providing expert guidance and compassionate care, you'll help students thrive academically and emotionally.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Certified Special Education Teacher with experience in behavioral settings Deep understanding of behavioral intervention plan (BIP) development Skilled in writing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Preferably trained in student restraint and de-escalation techniques Commitment to supporting students with severe behavioral needs in a self-contained environment Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and families Strong communication, problem-solving, and classroom management skills
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality, individualized instruction for K-6 students in a self-contained classroom Design, write, and execute effective behavioral intervention plans tailored to each student's needs Develop, update, and manage IEPs in compliance with legal and educational standards Employ therapeutic and academic strategies to encourage positive student behavior Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as necessary Implement de-escalation and safety interventions, utilizing restraint techniques when required and appropriate Foster a safe, engaging, and structured learning environment Collaborate with other educators, support staff, and family members to ensure cohesive student support This position is full-time, averaging 37.5 hours per week, and offers the rewarding opportunity to impact the lives of students who need dedicated advocacy and expertly-guided instruction.
