Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a positive impact supporting elementary students with diverse learning needs in an engaging, collaborative environment. This onsite contract role provides opportunities to work and grow within a supportive team, serving students across various classroom settings for the upcoming school year.
Key Qualifications:
Current and valid Special Education licensure as verified through the Alabama certification portal Previous experience teaching or supporting elementary students in a Special Education setting (inclusion, self-contained, or behavior units ideal) Strong commitment to student growth, inclusion, and personalized instruction Excellent classroom management, organization, and interpersonal skills Reliable, positive, and flexible approach to meeting the needs of students and collaborating with colleagues
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver specialized instruction tailored to the needs of elementary students with disabilities in one of three classroom environments: inclusion, self-contained, or behavior unit Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in partnership with families and support staff Track and report student progress; participate in regular IEP meetings and maintain thorough documentation Use evidence-based strategies to support academic and behavioral goals Foster a safe, encouraging, and productive classroom atmosphere Team up with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure optimal student outcomes
