Bentonville West High School Special Education Transition Teacher Position Purpose The Special Education Transition Teacher reports to the High School Principal and Special Education Transition Specialist supports students by teaching transition classes that helps prepare students with skills needed for post school success. Essential Functions Will administer age appropriate/grade level assessments and use the data from the assessments to help develop a meaningful transition plan with the student. Assist students in designing a set of services that will meet the student's unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living. Will participate in professional development associated with transition planning. Determine appropriate activities for deficit areas and to help reach post-secondary goals. Become knowledgeable of various life skills curriculum Become knowledgeable of various support agencies and their services. Become knowledgeable of area post-secondary schools. Learn and support the workings of the structured work programs the students participate in. Collaborate with families and staff (teachers) about upcoming transition planning meeting and gather input ahead of time. Provide information and resources to families and students about outside agencies and services (Medicaid Waiver, etc.) and share information about family and student trainings. Work and support caseload teachers in the development of individual student transition plans and IEP transition conferences when needed. Work with and support the Transition Specialist in Transition Fairs, Teacher IEP/Transition Trainings, and outside Community and critical transition stakeholders. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Math Specialist, School Principal, and other Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent.Note:

Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of high school curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Certification/License Arkansas State Certification as a special education teacher. Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
