JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:
Teacher of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification as a teacher of Special Education. At least five years of successful teaching experience with regular students, or three years of successful teaching experience with another district. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO
Principal/Special Education Director
JOB GOAL
To provide each Special Ed student with a program that will enable him to reach his fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides a basic core program for Special Ed students consistent with state education code requirements. Coordinates and supervises work experience and on-campus job training programs involving Special Ed students. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have Special Ed students in regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and assisting the student with regular class assignments. Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of each student. Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student. Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of applicants in the school's Special Ed program. Counsels individuals and groups of Special Ed students with educational, occupational, and personal problems. Assists the Special Ed students in making a realistic assessment of his abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities. Provides motivation to students who have short attention spans. Undertakes continuing professional study in psychology of the Special Ed student in teaching methods related to the field. Keeps attendance records and all other records pertinent to the Special Ed program for state reports.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Nine month year - salary and work year as determined by the Board.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
