Job Description:
Elementary Special Education TeacherPosition Summary The Elementary Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in grades K-5. This role involves developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), adapting curriculum, and collaborating with staff and families to ensure students achieve academic, social, and behavioral success.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support Provide direct, specialized instruction to students with diverse learning needs Modify and adapt the general education curriculum to meet individual student goals Use evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions Support inclusion by working with students in both general and special education settings IEP Development & Compliance Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with federal and state regulations Collect and analyze data to track student progress toward goals Schedule and lead IEP meetings with families and team members Maintain accurate and timely documentation Collaboration Work closely with general education teachers to support student success Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding progress and concerns Collaborate with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, counselors, etc.) Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings Classroom Environment & Behavior Support Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed Teach social skills and promote positive behavior strategies Assessment Assist in evaluating students for special education eligibility Administer and interpret assessments as appropriate Use assessment data to guide instruction Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's preferred) Valid Arkansas teaching certification in Special Education Knowledge of
IDEA, IEP
development, and special education laws Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills Experience working with elementary-aged students with disabilities preferred Working Conditions Classroom setting with potential for small group and one-on-one instruction May require lifting, assisting students with mobility, or managing challenging behaviors Regular school hours with occasional meetings beyond the school day Skills & Competencies Differentiated instruction Behavior management and de-escalation techniques Data-driven decision making Empathy, patience, and adaptability Strong teamwork and communication
