The In-School Suspension (ISS) Teacher is responsible for supervising students assigned to ISS and ensuring a structured, disciplined, and academically focused environment. The ISS Teacher supports student learning by providing guidance with assignments, reinforcing positive behavior, and helping students reflect on their actions to promote improved decision-making.Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise students assigned to ISS in a controlled and respectful classroom environment
- Enforce campus rules, policies, and behavioral expectations consistently
- Provide students with assigned coursework and assist as needed to ensure academic progress
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and completed work
- Communicate with teachers to obtain assignments and return completed work in a timely manner
- Implement behavior intervention strategies and encourage accountability
- Monitor student conduct to ensure a safe and orderly environment
- Facilitate reflection activities to help students understand consequences and make better choices
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and teachers regarding student progress and behavior
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
Qualifications:
- Must have 60 hours of college credits, pass the paraprofessional exam, or have an associates degree.
- Experience working with adolescents, preferably in a school setting
- Strong classroom management and behavior management skills
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and fair in disciplinary situations
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills for attendance and reporting systems
Working Conditions:
- Classroom setting with students assigned for disciplinary reasons
- May require prolonged sitting or standing and active monitoring of students

- Patience and strong conflict-resolution abilities
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to build rapport while maintaining authority
- Strong sense of professionalism and integrity
Performance Goals:
- Maintain a structured ISS environment conducive to learning
- Ensure completion of academic assignments by students
- Support reduction in repeat disciplinary incidents
- Promote positive behavior and personal accountability among students
