Job Description

Job Title:
Teacher for
Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired Job Summary:
The Teacher for Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired provides specialized instruction and support to help students access the general education curriculum and develop independence. This role includes teaching academic and functional skills, supporting the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), and collaborating with staff and families to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct and consultative services to students who are blind or visually impaired. Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats (braille, large print, tactile graphics, audio). Teach braille and/or support the use of assistive technology. Support student development in ECC areas, including independent living, social skills, self-advocacy, and career awareness. Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to implement accommodations and support student needs. Participate in IEP development, progress monitoring, and documentation. Conduct or assist with Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA). Provide guidance and training to staff on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or related field (Master's preferred). Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment (TVI). Braille proficiency or willingness to obtain. Knowledge of assistive technology and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC). Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
May serve multiple school sites; travel within the district may be required. Work includes classroom and individualized instructional settings.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
