Special Education Certification Teaching Full Job Description Job Title:
Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH)
Position Summary:
The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) provides specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring access to the general education curriculum while promoting communication, academic, and social development. The TDHH collaborates with staff, families, and related service providers to meet individual student needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct and consultative services in individual and group settings Adapt curriculum, materials, and instruction to ensure accessibility Develop and implement IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations Support communication development (spoken language, sign language, or total communication) Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families Support the use of hearing assistive technology (e.g., hearing aids, FM/DM systems, cochlear implants) Maintain required documentation and records
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field Valid state teaching certification with Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement Knowledge of instructional strategies and language development for students who are deaf or hard of hearing ASL proficiency preferred Relevant experience preferred
Skills:
Strong communication and collaboration skills Knowledge of assistive technology Organizational and record-keeping abilities Understanding of Deaf culture
Work Environment:
School-based setting; may include travel between sites.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate effectively through spoken and/or signed language and work in classroom settings.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
