The K-3 Reading Interventionist is a master teacher of reading who works specifically with K-3 students who require intensive intervention. The focus of the interventionist is to develop a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the gap in reading. The goal of the interventionist is to ensure that students return to grade level curriculum as quickly as possible.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of scientifically based reading research (SBRR) and scientifically based reading instruction (SBRI) specifically related to K-3 students. Understands the purpose and specifics of core reading programs, supplemental, and intervention programs and serves as a guide to the K-3 staff to effectively use these programs. Understands and effectively uses direct, explicit, systematic reading instruction that is aligned with scientifically based reading research. Understands and interprets assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform instructional decisions and flexible student grouping. Ensures that instructional decisions are based on analysis. Designs effective intervention lessons. Uses published scientifically based reading researched intervention programs to accelerate student learning. Frequently monitors progress of students receiving intervention services, in order to adjust instructional practice and student grouping. Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers about alignment between classroom instruction and intervention. Attends trainings that come with any and all publisher trainings. Trains paraprofessionals in effective instructional practice and the specifics of the intervention program. Supports the site level intervention plan through facilitation and/or participation at in-services, grade level team meetings, and staff meetings. Collaborates with technical assistance providers. Participates as an essential member of the Site Reading Leadership Team. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Other job related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education/Certification:
Degree in early childhood/elementary education Valid Arizona teaching certificate and an Arizona Reading Endorsement Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints ( IVP ) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ

Experience:
Three to five years experience in K-3 instruction. Three to five years experience in teaching diverse learners in the area of reading. Demonstrated experience working with children having difficulty learning to read. Experience working with individual teachers and site based teams. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
Abilities:
Read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals Write general correspondence and speak effectively with others Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals Work with little supervision Interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms Apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance
