POSITION SUMMARY
Under direction of the school site principal the Education Specialist provides resource support services to students with special needs in the general education setting. Assists the general education teacher in modification and differentiation of instruction for students with special needs. Works collaboratively with general education teacher to provide instruction in the classroom. Assists Para-Educators in implementing instruction to students to meet goals/objectives of the child's
IEP. MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Provides ongoing educational assessment and diagnosis of children for the purpose of identifying special learning problems and coordinates the development of individual instructional plans as appropriate for student identified with special needs. 2. Consults with appropriate specialist regarding the support service to be rendered by such persons such as speech and language therapists, school psychologists, classroom teachers, school nurses, etc., in sharing the responsibilities for implementing the IEP. 3. Provides educational instruction as outlined in the IEP for identified individuals with exceptional needs. These will be students who are also, according to their IEP's, assigned to the general education classroom for half or more of their school day. 4. Provides direct instructional services for approximately 80% of assigned student contact time. 5. Coordinates special education services with the regular school program for each individual with exceptional needs enrolled in the district and monitors the implementation of the IEP. 6. Provides consultation, resource information, and material regarding individuals with exceptional needs to regular staff members. 7. Consults and maintains close working relationship with the school psychologist in recommending prescriptive teaching for IEP plans. 8. Assesses pupil progress on a regular basis, revises short-term instructional objectives as appropriate, and consults with appropriate support specialist regarding pupils who do not demonstrate adequate progress. 9. In coordination with the school psychologist, maintains a watch and consult list which includes, among others, the names of all students in the school previously served in special education. 10. Participates in the planning and evaluation of the special education program. 11. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various equipment;

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time;
  • Walking, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, bending over, grasping, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling and moving, lifting and/or carrying 0-50 pounds to waist height.
HAZARDS:
  • Potential for contact with bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens, and communicable diseases;
  • Exposure to anti-social behavior;
  • Driving a vehicle during adverse weather conditions.
TECHNOLOGY STANDARD
Ravenswood City School District requires employees to have technology skills. E-mail, standard software usage and data entry are employment requirements. Advanced technical skills will be obtained through on-job training as needed.
